Dividend Aristocrats are companies which have not only PAID but have RAISED their dividends a minimum of 25 consecutive years, or longer. In 2008 when the S & P 500 fell by 37%, the group of stocks WITHIN the S & P 500 known as the Dividend Aristocrats, only fell by 22%. Dividends make a concrete difference in your investments because they aren't speculation, they are cash on the barrelhead paid to you every quarter. The difference can be seen over time. According to Standard and Poors, Dividend Aristocrats generated an annualized return of 16.6% over the past 10 years, topping the S & P 500's 15.1% return. Today in the Market Intel segment, we'll define the differences between Dividend Aristocrats, Dividend Champions, and Dividend Achievers--all part of the Black Diamond and BLUE Diamond Dividend Growth Portfolios, and Steve will outline how to incorporate dividend stocks into a well-managed portfolio. Mastering Money listeners like to travel and let's face it--Investing well and travelling go hand in hand. The better and safer you feel about your investments and retirement income, the more likely you are to hit the road after you retire. Be careful, however, if you are thinking about going to Cancun, Mexico.  Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula is famous for its aquamarine waters, white sandy beaches and Mayan ruins. But it is fast gaining a reputation as a destination for something far less appealing: smelly rotting seaweed. The action in the Caribbean is moving to the Bahamas where a new luxury mega-resort and casino is attracting high-income visitors in droves. We have an interesting Wall Street Journal report on the topic, then Steve has 3 key tips for building retirement wealth the SMART way. MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!!

The demand for annuities is strong despite the desperate attempts at unfounded criticism by promoters of front-loaded mutual funds-- like radio host Dave Ramsey, and elite TV billionaires like Ken Fisher-- who seem to think they are smarter than you! As we have said many times, Ramsey has done noble work helping younger middle earning Americans get out of debt. We applaud him.  But his advice for retirees has been called into question by many in the financial industry.   Every year, for the past ten years, an average of $200 billion dollars in annuities have been acquired. Memo to Dave Ramsey and Ken Fisher:  SOMEBODY is buying them, and most of them are pretty darn SMART!!   We'll review why annuities are so often used for 40k rollovers, then Shelley Grandidge joins us for the Q & A. A big show you don't want to miss  MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!!!

Without a concrete plan for reliable recurring income in retirement—your retirement is at risk. Today's economic situation will change. A REAL recession will arrive and it could stay a while. When planning for retirement income, asset allocation is critical. First, you'll need to determine your portfolio withdrawal rate. Your retirement lifestyle will depend not only on your asset allocation and investment choices but also on how quickly you draw down your retirement portfolio. If too much of your money is tied up in mutual funds and the market crashes, will you keep withdrawing the same amount, or pull back? We'll help you answer that question and several more in the Market Intel Segment. Then Steve will have some clear details and income quotes for you in the Q & A.  Don't miss it--MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!!

Research reveals that most people think in terms of simple interest, or average annual return, rather than geometric compounded returns. Participants in studies showed a bias toward ignoring the effects of compounding over time. The reality is that the richest people in the world got rich, and continue to GET rich, not overnight but over TIME-- through compounding steady gains. Each year, moderate gains are piled upon moderate gains. Wealthy investors growth wealth prudently. They don't chase after it. They understand how to manage risk. Today we'll review a Wall Street Journal report on the published findings of why so many people never get rich along with guidance on how to get your money on track!  You don't want to miss today's show, MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!!

Everyone knows how Social Security works—the longer you wait to start the income, the higher your future and permanent income will be when you finally turn it on.  Your future income rises mathematically by a factor of five-point two-five percent until full retirement age, then eight percent a year until age seventy. You might think that most people wait until they can get the highest income by putting off  Social Security Benefits until age 70. But statistics show that over NINETY-EIGHT PERCENT of Americans start their income much sooner. Is that a smart idea, or not so smart. Today, we'll outline the circumstances when taking your Social Security a bit early can but extra dollars in your pocket, then Steve has specific tips on how to build retirement wealth the SMART WAY... Have you been wondering why you are suddenly seeing “beefless” burgers at Burger King and other outlets? Well, it could be due to MARKETING research! Restaurants want to make money!  They are capitalist institutions. And, growing numbers of America’s population believe that we are experiencing accelerated climate change caused not only by humans-- but by those cute, lovable, four-legged creatures that give us milk, ice cream, yogurt, cottage cheese and yes, BURGERS. They also think that this summer's heat nationwide is "scientific proof" that we are seeing global warming!  Today, however, Steve and I will present scientific evidence that there have been many hotter summers, and why you can have a real meat burger today if you want one!!!   Then Shelley Grandidge joins us for the Q & A. Don't miss today's show...MASTERING MONEY is on the air!

According to David Kostin, Goldman Sachs' chief U.S. equity strategist-- investors should be looking NOW for opportunities in high-quality dividend growth stocks. Kostin said THIS on CNBC: “With the 10-year Treasury yield at just 1.5% and the Fed likely to cut two more times this year, investors should look for opportunities in dividend stocks.” He sees prices on dividend stocks as very appealing right now. Investing in dividend growth stocks is known as TOTAL RETURN investing. The strategy combines BOTH price appreciation AND the payment of consistent dividends. There are two ways to win--THREE if you count reinvesting your dividends. Today, we'll explore what Goldman Sachs has to say about dividend stocks right now with proven allocation tips to help you build retirement wealth THE SMART WAY. MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!
