Dividend Aristocrats are large cap, blue chip companies from many different industries that have all demonstrated a healthy balance between capital growth and dividend payouts. The S&P Dividend Aristocrats Index has outpaced the S&P 500 over the past decade. According to S&P, Dividend Aristocrats generated an annualized return of 16.6% over the past 10 years, topping the S & P's 15.1% return. Dividend Aristocrats are companies that have raised dividends a minimum of 25 years. Thanks to advances in medicine and healthier lifestyles, it’s more likely than ever that more Americans will make it to the century mark, if not beyond.  The centenarian population has grown faster than the overall population over the course of the last three decades, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, increasing 65.8% from 1980 to 2010 alone. The Society of Actuaries reports there is at least a 50% chance one member of a 65-year-old couple will live to 92, reports. Women have a better chance of making it to 100 than men — 82% of all centenarians are female. Today we'll review a survey to learn what percent of Americans believe they will live to age 100. It may shock you! Then physical therapist James Helmuth will join us to teach us about ARP Wave physical therapy--what it is and how it works!  MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!

With the stock market so unpredictable, and interest rates so low, retirees and those nearing retirement are left with fewer and fewer investment choices. Retirees naturally gravitate to safer investments in retirement. It can be said that doing so is a sign of intelligence because the idea of starting over or losing ten years of savings in a matter of months makes no sense at all past the age of fifty.  After the huge market swings in December of 2018 and again in May of 2019,  many investors have confirmed what they already knew. Their risk tolerance and time horizon are no longer the same. The demand for a safe asset that pays far more than a bond or bank account, and that can share in market-linked gains without any market losses is rising in demand. Today, we'll define exactly what a Next Generation Fixed Index annuity IS, and what it can DO for your retirement. You don't want to miss today's show, MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!

Wall Street has long promoted keeping 60 percent of your money in stocks and 40 percent in bonds as the ultimate retirement strategy, claiming an average of 8 percent returns over time. Is that figure reliable, or is it just sloppy advice in light of today’s high markets and historic low-interest rates? Brett Arends of the Wall Street Journal performed in-depth research to determine the viability and effectiveness of the 60-40 portfolio over the past 80 years. His findings? Except for two periods of dramatically declining interest rates, the 60-40 portfolio is in his words is "full of holes." And today with bond rates so low, the risk of income shortfall from a traditional portfolio has never been higher according to Ernst & Young. Today, Steve will review exactly why your bond funds are at risk, and how quickly a retirement portfolio could be hurt if both stocks and bonds fall at the same time--which is a distinct possibility! With interest rates remaining low, many retiring Baby Boomers feel like they are being PUSHED into stocks. But where else can they turn? Bonds are paying ridiculously low-interest rates--not enough to keep up with inflation! This is leading to increasing demand in dividend growth stocks. Today on Mastering Money, Steve will demonstrate how a stock whose price declines by thirteen percent over ten years can still realize a positive return over six percent because of reinvesting rising dividends while prices of quality stocks are lower. Learn the PROPER way to invest in dividends for higher returns and lower risk. Don't miss TODAY'S show. MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!

High-level research points to the fact that investors often think their savings grow in a linear fashion. Test after test reveals that most people think in terms of simple interest, or average annual return, rather than geometric compounded returns. They have a bias toward ignoring the effects of compounding over time. The reality is that the richest people in the world got rich, and continue to GET rich, not overnight but through compounding steady gains—year over year over year--often piling up seven times more wealth than those chasing short term gains and market timing. Wealthy people let money come to them. They don't chase after it. They position themselves well. Today we'll review a Wall Street Journal report on the published findings of why so many people will never be rich. You don't want to miss today's show, MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!!

In investing, knowledge is power. To paraphrase Benjamin Graham's investment advice--Warren Buffett’s mentor--you should strive to know WHAT you are doing and WHY. If you don't understand the game, he said, don't play it...and Stay away until you do. Being honest, most of us would say we DON’T actually understand the market. It has gotten so massive and unpredictable, pretending to know every aspect of it is foolhardy. Even Warren Buffett, during his brilliant career, only worked within a slice of the market—companies that he grew to understand very well and companies that made real money in the real economy. Buffett took a mathematical and systematic approach to investing. Today we'll review exactly how to do that, then health insurance and Medicare expert Shelley Grandidge joins us. A great show for you today...MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!!

Should Investors be wary of automated robo-advice online? According to research published in the Wall Street Journal, people tend to think suggestions from algorithms are always more “objective” than advice from humans. But...they’re wrong according to noted researcher Dr. Nazil Packin with the Zicklin School of Business in New York City.   Her Wall Street Journal-published-report points out that many of us routinely—and even BLINDLY—rely on the advice of ALGORITHMS  in all aspects of our lives, from choosing the fastest route to the airport to deciding how to invest our retirement savings. ….But should we trust algorithms as much as we do? Research suggests maybe we shouldn’t, especially when it comes to high-stakes financial decisions. Today we'll review the surprising research findings from the Journal with advice on building retirement wealth the SMART way. MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!
