Jason Zweig of the Wall Street Journal says that U.S. investors are in danger of becoming the equivalent of driverless cares when it comes to their investments and are in danger of falling asleep at the wheel. Betterment, Schwab Intelligent Portfolios, Vanguard Portfolio Advisory Services and Wealthfront — have roughly doubled their assets in the past year, to $77 billion dollars--adding to the market's rise. Many smaller U.S. cities and towns are in a battle to attract manufacturing companies from other cities and towns, using tax incentives and other lures. But not in a small way! Economic-development tax incentives more than tripled over the past 25 years, according to the Wall Street journal, offsetting about 30% of the taxes the companies receiving incentives would have otherwise paid in 2015--to the tune of about $45 billion dollars! Although Janet Yellen made the case that she needed to step in and cool off the economy by raising rates, one Fed official voted against the raise.Since then rates have fallen on ten year treasury bonds. A survey-based gauge of U.S. consumer inflation expectations over the next five to 10 years hit a record low this month, according to the University of Michigan two days after the Fed’s action to raise rates.
