Finra is concerned that many advisors are still pushing bond funds as being "safe" when indeed bond funds have entered a new era of risk and may be a threat to the retirement plans of many.

The last five years before retirement and the first five years after you retire can make or break a retirement income plan. That's because the sequence of returns during your last five to ten years will determine your final retirement amount. The order of the returns you get matters. If you get great returns during the time when you didn't have much money in the pot, but your returns go south or flat when you have a lot--your results can disappoint.
