If we had our druthers, we would prefer to retire into a healthy and certain economy where all the traffic lights were green and we could see a pathway straight ahead for miles and miles with no obstacles.   Given the choice, we would MUCH rather retire into the beginning of an economic EXPANSION, rather than the beginning of a recession. But retirees today are simply not getting their "druthers."  We have a huge election coming in the fall with plenty of turmoil to come no matter who is elected. Smart retirees don't try to predict the future, they like to build the future. Many professionals are retiring with a new breed of retirement annuity known as  NEXT GENERATION index annuity.
